The Predator franchise has had its ups-and-downs over the years, from classic highs to questionable lows, reinventions, collaborations and unproduced scripts. Arguably, some of the most popular outings of recent years have been of the unofficial variety with quality ‘fan-films’ such as Predator: Dark Ages that pitched the alien hunter against a group of Templar knights during the time of the Crusades.
The latest entry – the fifth official feature – and entitled Predator: Prey – will debut on Hulu on 5th August. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror, The Boys) it takes a similar historical angle, placing the confrontation in period dressing, this time in the American West’s Comanche Nation circa 1719. It features a skilled female warrior Naru who despite the gender roles at play at the time, is forced to step up and protect her tribe against the invader when it comes to the area with a few days to kill.
The film stars Amber Midthunder as Naru alongside Dane DiLiegro, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope.
