It was originally expected that the trailer for Spider-man: Far from Home would debut just before Christmas, likely within a few days of the Avengers: Endgame trailer. However the death of President H. W. Bush and various other political events resulted in a delay of both. The Endgame trailer hit the internet the following week, but it’s taken until today for the wider interwebs to catch up and bring us our first view of the next Spider-man movie.
Far from Home sees Peter (Tom Holland) and his amazing school-friends heading out of New York City on a European vacation and determined to leave the superheroics back home. However it appears that fate has other things in mind and Parker’s plans are somewhat hijacked when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) comes calling needing the teenager to suit up and solve a serious problem. It’s a good job that Aunt May (Marissa Tomei) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) made sure he’d got that suit with him. However… could the man known only as ‘Mysterio’ (Jake Gyllenhaal) be a help or a hinderance?
The film is due for release on 5th July, but it’s not clear exactly when the story is set. The Sony and Marvel Studios movies are now more closely connected into one coherent universe. At this particular point (between Avengers movies), Peter isn’t feeling very well – so it would suggest that Far from Home happens either pre-Infinity War or post-Endgame. (Avengers: Endgame is due for release just over two months earlier on 26th April).
