Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be…. but as Baba O’Riley strikes up its opening notes, it looks like Stranger Things will continue to wonderfully combine mix-tapes and monsters as Netflix‘s breakout hit hurtles into the third season.
We’ve only seen glimpses of what’s to come so far, but now we have the return of Winona Ryder, David Harbour (soon to be seen in the Hellboy revamp), Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Joe Keery. Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery and a fully-fledged trailer that shows how a large part of the action takes place in the town’s mall and how our main cast (with some interesting additions) have to cope with something sinister in the aisles. There’s some horrifying fashion faux-pas, unexpected flirting, countless movie references and homages, dangerous adversaries and a soundtrack to kill for / die from / rock out to.
Those who were worrying that stretching Stranger Things out to a third season might dilute the formula (and, yes we admit, we were a tad concerned you can have too much of a good thing) look to have had some of those doubts quashed by the trailer.
The third run begins by asserting its independence on 4th July…
