There was some consternation when it was revealed that there would be a new Hellboy film, but without Guillermo del Toro at the helm nor Ron Perlman under the prosthetics. However it appeared that Mike Mignola, the creator of the cult comic character, was involved and is happy with the new feature which gives the title role to Stranger Things‘ David Harbour and has Ian McShane stepping in to the Professor Bruttenholm role previously essayed by the late John Hurt. The cast also includes Daniel Dae Kim, Penelope Mitchell, Sasha Lane, Thomas Haden Church, Sophie Okonedo and Kristina Krebbe with Milla Jovovich playing the big bad Blood Queen, Nimue.
The long-awaited trailer, released today, gives us our first real view of what the new film will look like – both in production design and tone and it seems that though this is a reboot… in truth, not too much has changed. There’s still the biting sarcasm, a sardonic anti-hero and the never-ending chaotic battle between good and evil and everything in between.
The film, which lensed a significant part of its story in the UK, opens on 12th April…
