Though one might argue that the ever-escalating stakes and suspension of belief are what sometimes leads to fatigue in cinema franchise chapters, Tom Cruise is of the opinion that more is more. Though he got some bruises and bumps when a stunt went wrong last year (famously, some footage showed him colliding with a building ledge he was jumping to – thankfully still attached to wires), it seems there will be plenty of derring do to do in the newly-minted Mission Impossible: Fallout, the sixth film in the modern franchise.
“We’ve upped the ante for the sixth #MissionImpossible,” Cruise posted to Instagram. “I can’t wait for you guys to see more.” Along with the statement comes images from the film, though none of them reveal anything in detail (however, watch out for dangerous helicopters!). We do have an outline for the story, though it too is pretty short on specifics…
“The best intentions often come back to haunt you. Mission: Impossible – Fallout finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong,” reads the release. “Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm…”
For what it’s worth, we do know that Cavill’s character will have a moustache – the facial hair famously had to be CGI’d away when he was called back to play a newly-revived Superman for Justice League reshoots.
Mission Impossible: Fallout will arrive in cinemas on 27th July and we expect a trailer in the next couple of months…
