The current crop of primetime renewals and cancellations are starting to firm up and it’s good news for some, less so for other NBC shows.
Existing hits The Blacklist, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, New Amsterdam, LaBrea, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Law & Order: SVU are all back alongside comedy American Auto. Young Rock will be back for a third season and Grand Crew returns for its second run).
The losers? The Endgame was launched in February and immediately felt like a familiar, if inferior riff on the network’s existing The Blacklist (with Firefly‘s Morena Baccarin taking on the James Spader / enigmatic villain type of role). It did not get great reviews and it’s no real surprise that it won’t be returning next season. Two comedy shows Kenan (featuring Kenan Thompson) and Ted Danson vehicle Mr. Mayor failed to find favour with viewers in the ratings and are also cancelled.
Three ‘new’ shows to watch out for will be the much-anticipated Quantum Leap sequel/reboot a continuation of the classic sci-fi show that originally starred Scott Bakula and the late Dean Stockwell), Night Court (The Big Bang Theory‘s Melissa Rauch taking on the lead role as Harry Stone’s daughter and John Larroquette returning) and a new vehicle for comedian George Lopez in the aptly-named Lopez vs. Lopez.
There’s still no news so far for the pilots: Blank Slate, Found, The Irrational and Unbroken. but further details are expected next week.
