In John Wick 3, we got to see Mark Dacascos take on Keanu Reeves and it looks like director Chad Stahelski is continuing with martial-arts legends for the fourth movie in the franchise. Industry site Deadline has just confirmed that Donnie Yen will be joining the Lionsgate release for its next Wick outing. Though Dacascos was ultimately pitched against Reeves’ titular character, the new outing will see Donnie Yen as an old friend of John’s – which means they have a lot of the same friends and enemies… though we suspect that alone means there will be interesting conflicts brewing.
“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise,” said Stahelski. “I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.” Yen, is of course, a globally respected actor and martial-artist having appeared in a raft of eastern titles as well as western hits such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the IP Man franchise.
“Donnie Yen will bring a vibrant and powerful energy to the franchise. We were determined to bring him on board to John Wick 4 and are thrilled for the opportunity to have such a major talent to collaborate with Keanu,” added the film’s co-producer Basil Iwanyk.
Chad Stahelski is also directing the Highlander remake (Yen starred in the Highlander film Endgame, so they may yet compare some notes…)
