COVID: Nobody do the dinosaur (for two weeks)…

More delays for the Jurassic franchise as it plays safe to avoid an extinction event...

In what’s become a case of history repeating itself, it looks as if the latest Jurassic Park film has halted its production due to COVID-related issues. Production had halted earlier in the year due to filming restrictions and then we reported back in July that the set of Jurassic World: Dominion had gone onto a hiatus after a positive case of the virus shortly after production began again. On Wednesday director Colin Trevorrow tweeted the following:

Woke up to the news we had a few positive Coronavirus tests on Jurassic World: Dominion. All tested negative shortly after, but due to our safety protocols we’re going to pause for two weeks. Back soon. For the past three months, I’ve worked with an extraordinary cast and crew on a film we can’t wait to share with the world. Even though we’ll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it. Let’s stay healthy and take care of each other until then.”

It does seem as if the positive result was in question, but restrictions and rules regarding safety in these uncertain times are firm and the movie’s production is being cautious to ensure that cases are identified and not allowed to spread.

It was also recently announced that the film has moved off its 11th June 2021 release and to a whole year later, 10th June 2022, so these recurring delays shouldn’t impact that any further given the time available.

Jurassic World: Dominion combines a number of actors and characters from different parts of the franchise to date. We’ll see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum and there are rumours that Campbell Scott’s character will be a call-back to the mysterious man / biotech rival in the red t-shirt who originally helped Wayne Knight‘s Dennis Nedry in his attempt to smuggle off DNA/embryo samples in the first film (the ‘shaving-foam’ cannister was lost in the mud during those attempts but perhaps there will be a development there?
