HBO have just released a more revealing trailer (with Hank Williams’ Alone and Forsaken as its soundtrack) for their upcoming adaptation of the hit PS4 game The Last of Us. The acclaimed game won almost every award possible and generated an equally popular – but even more controversial – sequel title that came out last year. News came last year that there were plans to adapt and expand upon the story chronicled in the first game title, exploring the world twenty years about a virus ravages the world, leaving pockets of civilisation, groups fighting for dominance and the threat of mutated creatures roaming what’s left of the cities.
A smuggler called Joel is handed the task of moving a package across enemy lines and to his horror discovers the ‘package’ is actually a young girl named Ellie. At first he has no intention of doing the job – Ellie reminds him too much of the daughter he lost during the original chaotic days of the infection, but when he realises the importance of the job he reluctantly agrees to get her where she needs to go. As they travel together they encounter the various human and viral threats stacked against them and uncover just why Ellie is important…
We know that the role of Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey will play Ellie. Others involved in the cast include: Gabriel Luna (Agents of SHIELD) as Tommy, Anna Torv (Fringe) as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon and Elaine Miles as Florence. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (who voiced Joel and Ellie in the games) will also appear.
Though there’s still no specific date, we know the show, currently in post-production, will arrive in 2023…
