Putting aside endless rewatches of Avengers: Endgame, it’s been a while since we watched the God of Thunder on the screen, but after many delays, July will bring the return of Thor to cinema screens with Thor: Love and Thunder and we finally have a trailer that gives us an idea of what to expect.
The trailer itself plays to familiar and expected beats, all accompanied by a Guns and Roses soundtrack. Thor is getting back into shape and after fighting alongside the ‘Asguardians’ of the Galaxy he’s decided it’s time to return to doing his own thing – and discovering what his own thing’ entails. That appears to be meeting up with some Greek gods (watch out for Russell Crowe as Zeus) and encountering a new warrior dressed in familiar garb…. yes, that’s Natalie Portman as Jane Foster as… Thor?
The trailer doesn’t address some factors: Jane Foster’s cancer (which is a factor in her taking up the mantle) or Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, the main antagonist. Director Taika Waititi said he likes to change things up and considered that the new film, while more ‘over-the-top’ than Ragnarok, would still play on a romantic level.
Marvel Studios‘ Thor: Love and Thunder arrives 8th July…
