Ryan Reynolds has given fans a first-look at the trailer for the upcoming sequel to his guilty-pleasure actioner The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The 2017 original starred Reynolds as Michael Bryce, a sardonic bodyguard who unexpectedly has to protect an international assassin Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) who is testifying at The Hague against a despotic leader Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman) accused of war-crimes. A race across Europe begins as Dukhovich throws every resource against the two men he can, in an effort to stop them reaching the court.
The sequel, entitled The Hitman’s Wife’s Wife’s Bodyguard sees original co-star Salma Hayek (as Sonia Kincaid) take a more central role as she and Reynolds are forced to work together to protect Kinkaid. Hayek’s Desperado co-star Antonio Banderas plays the big-bad of the piece and the all-star cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, Caroline Goodall, Rebecca Front, Gabriella Wright, Alice McMillan, Kristofer Kamiyasu, Tom Hopper, Blake Ritson and Richard E. Grant. (No news as to whether Elodie Yung – who also played Elektra in Netflix‘s Daredevil – will reprise her role as Amelia Roussel).
The red-band trailer (so expect naughty words) is below and the film arrives, COVID permitting, 16th June, now moving up from its intended August date….
