Much as Sunday evening was a night for sport, let’s be completely honest, it was also a night for memorable commercials and a number of major trailers for much-anticipated films…
‘The Man with the Hat is back…’ this summer (30th June to be specific) and this time he’s brought his trailer. For what is likely to be the last time, Harrison Ford reprises the role of the one and only Indiana Jones for ‘The Dial of Destiny‘ and though the action has moved forward to the 1960s, it seems that the Nazis are still a thorn in his side. Cue much derring-do and whipping-wonderment as the archaeologist and raider of lost arcs is joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook and a returning John Rhys-Davies all under the direction of James Mangold (The Wolverine).
For a while it looked as if Warner/DC‘s The Flash would never be released: rumoured for nearly a decade and then beset by the kind of negative publicity that would normally sink the average movie, there were plenty who felt it wouldn’t ever make it to multiplexes and if it did it would probably be a disaster. So, kudos to the new trailer for the film, debuting at half-time, that likely made it the must-see film of the summer.
To be fair, much of that reaction comes not from troubled star Ezra Miller (though they certainly look good in the film), but the appearance of several other DC heroes who might just be having their last hurrah as the universe-wide reboot under James Gunn starts to roll out. Though Ben Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne, it’s another incarnation and parallel universe version in the shape of Michael Keaton who likely got the biggest fist-pump from viewers. “Yes, I’m… Batman‘ may be the best line in the trailer and over thirty years in the making.
Before James Gunn turned to the DC universe, he was master of all he surveyed with Marvel’s bunch of crazy misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. Though he was ‘un-attached’ for a short while, he returned as director to fulfil his trilogy of space-faring action and Volume 3 arrives 5th May. Though there are clearly plenty of laughs, there’s also a fair bit of angst and given that it completes and arc Gunn first envisaged over a decade ago, it may well see some of the central characters shuffling off this multiversal mortal coil…
The Rocky franchise may have become a Hollywood franchise for the ages, but its modern ‘sequel’ feature-films concerning Adonis Creed (the son of Balboa’s opponent Apollo Creed) continues to have legs and fists of its own. Creed 3, once again starring Michael B Jordan sees the championship boxing star going up against Jonathan Majors’ Damian Anderson, a childhood friend who lost out on a promising boxing career when he went to prison. This will be the first of the nine ‘in universe’ movies without an appearance by Sylvester Stallone, though he is still serving as an executive producer.
Creed 3 arrives in the ring and at multiplexes on 3rd March.
