You might want to feel sorry for Doctor Michael Morbius. Not only does he have a rare blood condition that’s slowly killing him, a new and experimental serum taken as the answer to his prayers might also lead to a unliving nightmare as his taste for blood rises. But the real obstacle might be that the new SONY/Marvel film, due for January, has been somewhat eclipsed by the arrival of Morbius’ mortal enemy Spider-man and ‘Far from Home‘ arriving in December…
The film, starring Jared Leto in the title role, was lensed in London between February and June 2019, Since then, we’ve seen a few hints, sequences and images concerning Morbius leading up to the delayed release (pre-COVID it was originally scheduled for June 2020). But now we finally get a second and more revealing trailer… and listen closely and there’s even a comedic name-drop for none other than fellow anti-hero Venom. But there’s also lots of other questions raised by the footage… several elements of the film shown in the trailer seem to be from different parts of Spider-man mythology. Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) who played the Vulture in Spider-man: Homecoming is back, a poster on the wall shows the word ‘Murderer’ plastered on it (referring to Spidey’s battle with Mysterio?) and yet the costume isn’t the Tom Holland version and the pose is from the SONY PlayStation game. It’s almost as if there’s a Multiverse of Madness going on?
