Netflix closed a deal for the new action-film Gunpowder Milkshake (directed by Navot Papushado, who previously helmed Big Bad Wolves) back in April and is planning to launch it to US audiences in July – both in cinemas and on Netflix.
British actors Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) play a mother and daughter pair of assassins in a mostly female cast that also includes international names Angela Bassett (Black Panther), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger – Hidden Dragon, Star Trek: Discovery) and Carla Gugino as well as Paul Giamatti. The story takes place over one night as three generations of assassins find themselves caught up in a cycle of violence which will be ended or further ignited by their choices.
Tonally the film feels like a cross between John Wick and several Tarantino movies and even The Expendables – a larger-than-life, deadlier-than-death outing with its tongue-in-cheek and its finger on several simultaneous triggers. Gunpowder Milkshake was shot in Berlin through 2019, its release date another casualty of the covid delays. Now Studiocanal will release the film in the UK (as well as France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand) later in the year…
