Despite something of a long journey to the screen, it looks as if the time-travel actioner Boss Level will finally see the light of day on hulu next year, according to industry site Deadline.
The film – directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, The Grey and the upcoming The Raid remake), and with a modest budget of around $45m – was due for release back in August 2019 but missed its release date and its future seemed uncertain when Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures decided to drop the film from their upcoming catalogue this past summer.
The hulu deal appears to have rescued the film and will debut it as a branded ‘hulu original‘ in 2021. The long-completed film (which actually received some positive buzz after an advance-screening at the Arclight Cinema in LA back in February this year) has a sense of humour about its remit and boasts an interesting cast. Frank Grillo (Captain America and The Grey) play a former special-ops soldier called Ray Pulver who finds himself caught in a time-loop that keeps resulting in his murder – a situation that we are introduced to at the top of the film as he experiences events for nearly the 140th time. Retaining memories of each ‘cycle’, Pulver has to learn to sidestep imminent peril and uncover a wider possible government conspiracy…the one man who may have the answers is a Colonel Ventor (played by veteran wildcard Mel Gibson). The supporting cast is also impressive with the likes of Naomi Watts, Michelle Yeoh, Will Sasso, Ken Jeong and Annabelle Wallis.
No specific date has been set by hulu as yet, but it could well be early in 2021, especially with the film having leaked online during its delay.
