The third Bill and Ted movie, reuniting Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as they tumble through time in an erratic telephone box (hmmmm….someone should make a series about such a concept) was due to arrive on cinema screens this summer, but with the theatrical industry still largely in lockdown, it appeared that the title would continue to be delayed along with many other films.
But while the likes of Christopher Nolan’ and his postponed Tenet are firmly claiming Wyld Stallions couldn’t drag them away from a theatrical-first release when cinemas re-open en masse, the controversy over just how long that position can be sustained and whether films can and should find other avenues for release, continues… and now the eponymous Bill and Ted will be having their next most excellent adventure away from move-theatres as they Face the Music on VOD.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William ‘Bill’ S. Preston Esq. and Theodore ‘Ted’ Logan. Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends – to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.”
Alongside Reeves and Winter, the film – directed by Dean Parisot – features Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Scott Mescudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr., and Amy Stoch.
The film will ultimately be available on some big-screens for the few cinema in the US that are open, but the bulk of the attention will be on watching it from your armchairs. Party On!
