Despite the critical success of Amazon Studios‘ Bosch (featuring Titus Welliver) and the considerable talent initially assembled for A+E Studios/CBS‘ proposed series based on author Michael Connelly’s other successful character Mickey Haller aka ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’, it appears the latter will now not be going forward at CBS. Even given the current flux and uncertainties the entertainment industry finds itself in, there was every indication that The Lincoln Lawyer was a shoe-in for next season. The source material was a series of best-sellers, the pilot was ready to shoot, the show already had a full season commitment and scripts had been delivered.
The books – featuring Haller, a savvy, sometimes unorthodox and quick-footed lawyer – are part of the ‘Connolleyverse’ of inter-connected characters and the character’s 2006 debut had already been adapted for the big screen with Matthew McConaughey in the title role in 2011. The series was being run by David E. Kelley – the man behind such legal hits as LA Law, The Practice, Boston Legal and Ally McBeal. Logan Marshall Green had been cast as Haller and the supporting cast, including Lost‘s Kiele Sanchez as Lorna – Mickey’s second ex-wife and assistant – was being established.
It is not known at this point whether the series could be offered to – and picked up by – another network or outlet. Amazon Studios recently released the sixth season of Bosch with a seventh, final season to be shown next year.
There will be two new Connelly novels out this year. Later this month there is Fair Warning, a story featuring the long-awaited return of Jack McEvoy, the journalistic hero of The Poet and The Scarecrow. The Law of Innocence, featuring Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch, is due for publication in November.
