The latest spin-off for The Walking Dead was supposed to launch on 10th April, immediately after the finale for the current run of its parent show. The Walking Dead: World Beyond is planned to run for two seasons, starting with a ten-episode run. However, despite the logic that there’s a bigger ‘home’ audience than ever given the ‘self-isolating’ directive, AMC has decided to pull the debut and now plans to premiere the show ‘later in the year’. It follows a similar decision over the newest season of Fargo which was still in production until work was halted in the last week.
World Beyond looks to be skewed to a younger audience than the original, featuring a group of teenagers who leave the safety of their enclave after having grown up fully protected and with very few memories of the world before the zombie apocalypse occurred. The remit for the show explains that… “Two sisters, along with two friends, leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead, on an important quest.Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, good & bad.”
It is believed that one of the new characters we’ll meet, an adult named Elizabeth (played by Julia Ormond and seen in the unusually colourful video below), has ties to the black helicopters that have been seen in both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead and may also tie-in to the upcoming Rick Grimes-centred film). The main cast also includes Alexa Mansour (The Resident) and Aliyah Royale (The Red Line), Annet Mahendru (The Americans) and Nico Tortorella (Younger).
