‘Star’ Treatments: Bosch & Lincoln Lawyer in May, new ‘Bosch’ book in Nov…

Good news for Michael Connelly fans - 2022 will be a busy year for his law-enforcers...

The new Bosch series (continuing with the same main cast of the Amazon version) is set for a four-episode debut drop on Freevee on 6th May (with two episodes each week thereafter through 27th May) but Michael Connelly’s other literary character, Mickey Haller will also be hitting screens in May via Netflix.

The new series – entitled The Lincoln Lawyer because Mickey likes working out of his Lincoln Town Car rather than having a permanent office – details Mickey’s return to the law profession and the trouble he finds himself in when he tries to make the law work the best way for his clients.  The series, debuting 13th May, draws some of its main inspiration from Connelly’s The Brass Verdict novel  (in which Mickey returns to the courtroom after recovering from injuries sustained in the first book). The Lincoln Lawyer film – starring Matthew McConaughey was the first screen version of the character and was adapted from that debut Haller story of the same name.  The Brass Verdict originally united Haller and Bosch for the first time and highlighted a previously unknown connection between them, but given Bosch is busy on a different platform and with different rights issues, that part of the story will have been changed for the screen.

Reflecting the character’s partial Latino heritage, Manuel Garcia Rulfo essays Haller and heads up a talented cast. His two ex-wives, Lorna and acclaimed prosecutor Maggie (Becki Newton and Neve Campbell respectively) are still part of his life, trying to keep him on the straight and narrow. Krista Warner plays Haley (the daughter he had with Maggie). Other notable names include Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, Christopher Gorham, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Michael Graziadei, and Jamie McShane.

Those wanting a new literary investigation featuring Harry Bosch and Connelly’s latest character Renée Ballard will have to wait until 8th November when Desert Star is published. The forthcoming novel will see Bosch working his ‘White Whale’ case, one that’s haunted him for years but which he can’t solve. – the murder of an entire family by a psychopath who is still out there. The last we saw of Ballard she had made the decision to quit the force but still remained in two-minds on her future. Now she makes Bosch an offer: come work with her as a volunteer investigator in the new Open-Unsolved Unit, and he can have the resources of the LAPD behind him…
