New ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’ trailer confirms rogues’ gallery…

'No Way Home' arrives just before Christmas, but SONY are spinning more footage to keep us guessing...

We’re a calendar month away from the release of the much-anticipated Spider-man: No Way Home release and Marvel/Disney have just released the final official trailer which confirms some of the rumours. It’s no surprise that Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is in the mix and we now have a firmer look at the Green Goblin (that voice sounds like Willem DaFoe returning), Jamie Foxx as Electro… and Sandman (in the form of Thomas Haden Church?). There also looks to be an appearance of the Lizard. We also get to see plenty of Benedict Cumberbatch’s exasperated Doctor Strange and Zendaya as MJ (with her put in some serious jeopardy).

What’s a little of a surprise is that these villains might not be the out-and-out threat of the film – with the source of Peter’s greatest angst being the actual responsibilities he carries. There are scenes of them confronting Peter – singularly and seemingly en masse – but it also appears that Peter is voicing his concerns to Doctor Strange that sending them back to their own universes will simply confirm their deaths in that original universal time-line (the characters having met their demise in the previous non-MCU films by SONY).  That brings the two heroes into some serious conflict.  From the tone of the trailer there’s going to be some comedy but also some darker themes than we’ve experienced so far.

Though Doc Ock doesn’t recognise our (Tom Holland) as the Peter he knows (which would have been Tobey Maguire in his films), there’s still no airtight confirmation that previous webheads Maguire and Andrew Garfield will make an appearance… though it would now surprise no-one if they do.

We’ll know soon enough…
