Royal Rumble? Marvel eyes The Queen for ‘Secret Invasion’ role…

Marvel's 'Secret Invasion' series seems to be casting yet another actor known for world-leading roles...

If reports on industry site The Hollywood Reporter are true then Marvel may be looking  to cast a right royal actor for a key role in their upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

Olivia Colman, who most recently played Queen Elisabeth II in The Crown (but whose other work includes an Oscar-winning turn in The Favourite and appearances in FleabagBroadchurch and Doctor Who), is said to be in line for the new series.

Secret Invasion takes its cue from the 2008 Marvel Comics story of the same name, where it was revealed that the evil alien race the Skrulls had initiated a long-game substitution of key Marvel heroes, with the added revelation that many years of stories had actually featured the deep-cover doppelgangers. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has painted a less sinister role for the Skrulls (as seen in Captain Marvel and glimpsed in Spider-man: Far from Home) and so the series may approach the basic story with a few tweaks.

The show will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. It is also believed that Kingsley Ben-Adir  (The OA, Peaky Blinders, High Fidelity and The Comey Rule, in which he played Barack Obama) is set to play the main villain. Little beyond that – including Colman’s possible role – is known at this point.
