After his success with Thor: Ragnarok and his Oscar-winning screenplay for JoJo Rabbit, Taika Waititi could probably do almost any project he wanted (there were recent rumours he might helm a Star Wars movie). But it seems his next project will be two films connected to the world of Roald Dahl. Waititi will write, direct and produce two animated outings for Netflix: a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a movie based on the famous Willy Wonka workforce the Oompa-Loompas, both building on the ideas presented in the original book.
The two projects are likely part of a bigger slate in the wake of Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company agreeing to reworkings of the late author’s most famous stories. Industry site Deadline reports that other titles under consideration include Matilda, The BFG and The Twits.
Waititi, who also directed the first season finale of The Mandalorian, is also helming the next Thor movie: Love and Thunder.
