It looks like Marvel‘s domination of the streaming universe has hit a minor speed-bump with the news that the much-touted Ghost Rider series will now not be going forward at hulu.
In May Marvel announced an ambitious wave of intended programming for 2020 and beyond, confirming that Gabriel Luna (soon to be seen in Terminator: Dark Fate) would reprise the role of Robbie Reyes in the new show, having previously played the same ‘Spirit of Vengeance‘ in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD on ABC. The plan was to take the concept and casting and create a standalone show that wasn’t beholden to what had gone before.
However a ‘creative impasse’ has scuppered the current plan and the platform ultimately decided not to further pursue the project. Ghost Rider was going to be a supernatural scheduling partner to another mystical-themed show Hellstrom. At this point Hellstrom is still intended to go forward at hulu and the character has recently been getting a higher profile in Marvel‘s printed comics, indicating full-on support so far.
Luna himself responded later in the day via Instagram, thanking fans for their support…
