There’s still a few months to go before the new season of Doctor Who begins across the UK (with simulcast across various other territories), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t time for a teaser. Last year, the BBC chose the Wimbledon final to showcase Jodie Whittaker’s first real appearance and this year it’s another sporting event – the World Cup – which allowed us some more teasers. It’s not clear whether the footage is from the episode or more likely from its pacing purely a promotional concept tease more concerned with tone – the Doctor and her new soon-to-be companions feeling an effect concerned with time (notice the doctor punching a chip off Tosin Cole/Ryan’s plate, Mandip Gill’s Yasmin having her pizza restored and that Bradley Walsh’s Graham is suddenly reading a Beano Summer Special from the 1980s?) – but it should eb enough to keep us going until the likely October review.
