Flying Solo: Star Wars spin-off gets final trailer…

Even longer ago, in a galaxy far far away...

After all the directorial comings-and-goings that were widely reported during production, it’s just over a month until the next standalone Star Wars outing (Solo: A Star Wars Story to give it its full title) hits cinemas… and we’ve now got the final trailer flying on to screens.  There’s a distinct devil-may-care vibe for a movie that introduces us to the young Han Solo via way of seeing how the flyboy and driver became one of the most notorious smugglers in the galaxy far, far away.

There are plenty of great visual moments scattered throughout the trailer – showing us a cleaner, sleeker Millennium Falcon going through its hyperspace paces but it looks as if the emphasis will be on the ‘heist’ humour. Modern audiences have rewarded sardonic, cosmic tales (Firefly‘s Mal Reynolds – Nathan Fillion – the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s version of Starlord – Chris Pratt – both owe more than a little something to the Solo template) and despite the fact that so little was known about the film until it entered its final parsecs, there’s every indication that the publicity-machine is now ready to bullseye some wamprats…

The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, Joonas Suotamo making his debut as Chewbacca (taking over from Peter Mayhew) and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Paul Bettany and Thandie Newton are all there in the mix as well…

The film debuts at the Cannes Film Festival but then hits the multiplexes in a season that will see it go up against heavy-hitters such as  the new Avengers movie (also starring Bettany), so there’s everything to play for…

Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on 25th May
