There’s a deal of irony in the fact that it’s taken over a decade of MCU movies before fan-favourite Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) gets her own solo outing and that it didn’t happen until after ***spoilers*** the character’s demise in the recent blockbusting Avengers: Endgame.
Given the Endgame events, fans are presuming that the story is a prequel, detailing the Russian operatives turbulent past and her origins in the KGB ‘red room’ that turned her into a vital operative and assassin… however nothing has been confirmed. There’s been a slow trickle of information regards casting. Joining Johansson will be Stranger Things / Hellboy‘s David Harbour, Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz and it’s just been announced by industry-site Variety that the ever-reliable Ray Winstone (Robin of Sherwood, 44″ Chest, Beowulf) will also be involved in the film that is currently shooting in London. (Marvel haven’t officially confirmed the casting news as yet, but it seems legit).
Marvel have confirmed that they will have a significant presence at July’s SDCC and as a lot of the post-Endgame movies remain in flux with regards to specifics and release dates, expect more news on Black Widow and her peers shortly…
