There are a raft of familiar names now attached to a three-part adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol which is due for broadcast this coming winter season on FX in America and the BBC in the UK. Following in the steps of George C. Scott, Alastair Sim, Albert Finney, Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, Michael Caine and Patrick Stewart (to name but a few) Guy Pearce (Iron Man 2, The Count of Monte Cristo, Priscilla – Queen of the Desert, Memento etc) will essay the key role of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly old man who faces a fateful choice when visited by three ghosts over the festive season and who warn him to change his ways.
Those spectres include Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes, Black Panther) as the Ghost of Christmas Past and Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, The Dark Knight) as the Ghost of Christmas Future. Other cast members include Stephen Graham (Taboo, Line of Duty) as Jacob Marley, Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders, Dark Heart) as Lottie, Joe Alwyn (Billy Lynn’s Long Half-Time Walk) as Bob Cratchit and Vinette Robinson (Sherlock and Doctor Who‘s Rosa Parks). It is not known if Serkis will appear as a physical actor or in his equally famous performance-capture mode.
The project is a co-production between Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker and FX Productions.
