Update: And here’s the trailer:
John Barrowman is set to reprise his role as the infamous omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness in the upcoming seasonal episode of Doctor Who. Revolution of the Daleks, which is now being referred to as the ‘Festive’ special (rather than the ‘Christmas’ special, perhaps indicating it could once again debut over the New Year). The special finished shooting as part of the last season’s block of episodes and was ‘in the bank’ before the COVID pandemic hit.
It picks up from where the last season’s highly-controversial episode left-off with the Doctor reeling from revelations about her past but facing more immediate difficulties when she’s taken and imprisoned by the Judoon. On the 57h anniversary of the show’s original debut on 23rd November 1963, the BBC released a short teaser that doesn’t reveal a lot about the story but confirms Barrowman’s participation. There’s also a promotional image and a brief description of what’s to come…
Captain Jack will be on hand to help the fam as they discover a disturbing plan forming involving one of the Doctor’s most feared and dangerous enemies, the Daleks. With the Thirteenth Doctor locked away in a space prison, will Captain Jack be able to help save planet Earth?
One thing to note is the slight re-design of the Daleks in the poster image. This is almost always controversial, even with smaller tweaks and there’s a reason why the tin-pot dictators have often reverted back to basics. However we’ll know more about the differences when the episode debuts over the holidays.
