With few imminent cinematic entries, a lot of the news coming out of the Marvel camp is related to television and the latest development could be one of the most interesting. According to industry site Variety, Disney+ is currently developing a new Marvel series in which Samuel L. Jackson would reprise the role of Nick Fury, apparently as the main character or at least as a regular. If so, it would be his first regular television role – though he did appear in two episodes of ABC‘s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD as the character.
The project is currently in development with, technically, no formal decision announced or knowing what the timetable will be – especially as COVID continues to be a disruptive element for the entire industry. Variety‘s sources indicate that Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) will be the main writer and would executive produce.
There’s no details on when or where the series would be set. So far Jackson has appeared in most of the Marvel Studios movies, his first appearance being in the after-credits scene in Iron Man (2008) and most recently revived at the end of Avengers: Endgame and in the Spider-man: Far from Home entry from SONY. (Though, spoiler…. was that really Fury appearing through most of the film given a clue in the scene after the credits that suggests some of the times we’ve seen him he could have been a skrull?).
