Perhaps defying the current trend for high-profile but expensive shows meeting an untimely end and not being renewed, it has been confirmed that Amazon Studios‘ The Peripheral will be back for a second run.
The series takes its title and inspiration from the William Gibson novel of the same name – though it went in an expanded direction – where a VR unit enables a modern family (albeit living in a world a little different from our own) to become part of an intricate war between the future and the past along multiple timelines. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Gary Carr, Jack Reynor and JJ Field, the original eight-episode project, shown in November/December 2022) was the first part of a nine-figure deal that husband and wife team Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy made with Amazon and is the first series after Westworld (which was cancelled by HBO after its fourth season late last year).
Nolan and Joy are also working on an adaptation of the best-selling video game Fallout.
