While many eyes will have been on the debut of the trailer for the next Terminator film, entitled Dark Fate, CBS All Access rather quietly gave us a look at what to expect from another anticipated sf staple… Star Trek: Picard.
Today was probably chosen as it is – unbelievably – twenty-five years since the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (entitled All Good Things) was broadcast. Though it’s more setting the tone than revealing the plot, we see the winery (presumably his ancestral family’s in France) that Jean-Luc has returned to after he, apparently, rather abruptly left Star Fleet fifteen years before in the wake of a ‘rescue mission’ that cost him dearly.
Patrick Stewart…of course, it is he… returns to one of his signature roles for a series that we have been told will have a different tone to CBS All Access‘ other show Star Trek: Discovery, but which is likely to be an important part of their expanding commitment to the franchise.
Hanelle Culpepper will be directing the first two episodes and ‘Number One’ Jonathan Frakes is also stepping into that chair. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Doug Aarniokoski are involved in producing the show.
