Schwarzenegger assaulted at South African event…

The veteran action actor was assaulted by a fan who drop-kicked him, but Arnie apparently received no serious injury...

It’s sometimes noted that famous actors have an entourage and security that may seem overwhelming and out of proportion. But sometimes there are moments that show why such are needed – because while a majority of people attend promotional events to meet their favourite stars, some come for less welcoming reasons. While signing autographs and taking photos with fans at a promotional event in South Africa earlier today, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the victim of an attack by a ‘crazed man’ who drop-kicked the actor and sent him falling into tables and onlookers. The moments before, during and after the assault were captured on video.

It is not clear whether the unidentified man – who had apparently tried to shake Arnold’s hand a few moments prior to his attack  and who was immediately tackled himself and arrested by event security – was intending to cause serious harm to Schwarzenegger or whether the attacker was under some delusion that he was acting out a scene from one of the star’s action movies. However, while this was a serious incident, it could have been even worse – there was obvious serious potential for considerable injury and there will be questions asked about how close the man could get to Arnold and carry out such an attack.

Arnold, 71,  was able to carry on with the meet-and-greet for several more minutes after the incident and took to social media shortly afterwards to clarify the aftermath.  He tweeted: “Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat.

Apparently at Schwarzenegger’s request, the man – who is known to local police and has allegedly carried out similar assaults in the past – will not be formally charged.

Arnie’s next film, Terminator: Dark Fate – which will also see Linda Hamilton back as Sarah Connor – is released on 1st November and the film’s first proper trailer can now be found here….
