Oscar, Oscar: 2018’s nominees announced…

The contenders for the upcoming Academy Awards were announced early Tuesday morning....

There weren’t a huge amount of surprises in Tuesday’s list of nominations for the Academy Awards  as read out by Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis.

Some familiar titles, such as The Shape of Water (with thirteen nominations), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Darkest Hour all get the expected nods, with Blade Runner 2049 getting an assortment of artistic/technical nods but it’s also interesting to see the success of Get Out, one of the past year’s most unsettling social-commentary horror outings… and Christopher Plummer nabbing a nomination for the role he came in to film after Kevin Spacey was replaced on All the Money in the World. Screenwriter/director James Mangold got a nod for the screenplay for Logan, however, somewhat unexpectedly, there was no love for Wonder Woman.
