To be or not Obi? Next Star Wars to feature Kenobi?

The next standalone 'Star Wars' to go into production may feature more backstory to Obi Wan Kenobi...

Reports are coming in that the next standalone movie set within the Star Wars universe is likely to centre on the character of Obi wan Kenobi. Long-rumoured, the story would probably fill in some of the character’s story that takes place between the prequels and the original trilogy.

In the past the character has been played by both Ewan McGregor and the late Sir Alec Guinness, though at this stage there’s no firm confirmation that McGregor will be involved in the new project.

It is believed that Disney, the studio who make the films, is in negotiations with Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours, The Reader, Netflix’ The Crown) to helm the project, though there is no script and it is possible that other films might be slotted in to the schedule ahead of this – with rumours of a Bobba Fett project also in the works.

The latest ‘standalone’ project has been the somewhat troubled (and as yet formally untitled) Young Han Solo production which is still on target for a 25th May 2018 release. Ron Howard recently took over that project when the production dramatically parted ways with directing duo Chris Miller and Phil Lord after six months of shooting.
