Finally… a Deadpool / MCU crossover. Well, sort of…

Deadpool and Ragnarok's Korg have sat down to rate the 'Free Guy' trailer and exchange tips on working with Marvel...

Anyone who knows anything about the history of Marvel‘s movies knows the saga of the FOX and SONY situation where Marvel Studios themselves were only allowed to use some of the Marvel Comics characters – mostly due to the previous sales that the comics company made during its less lucrative days ( essentially the reason The X-Men, Fantastic Four etc have yet to appear in the MCU). That’s changed with various studio buy-outs – Spider-man is already part of the Avengers due to agreements – and looks to get even more interconnected since Disney bought out Fox.

There’s been a lot of speculation as to whether Deadpool, the hugely successful, meta-aware, fourth, fifth and sixth wall-breaking character (but distinctly ‘R’-rated franchise) powered by Ryan Reynolds would ever make the jump into the mainstream MCU. Well, technically that’s still yet to happen, but a new trailer for Reynolds’ Free Guy does bring together Deadpool and Korg to do a ‘reaction’ video to that trailer. Korg, a walking, rocky-skinned alien who first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, is voiced by that film’s director Taika Waititi and Deadpool notes that ‘… he wasn’t my first choice, but everyone else was bust over on Disney+‘.

Free Guy mixes the idea of The Truman Show, Tron and They Live to comedic effect when ‘Guy’ (Reynolds) is given glasses by the mysterious ‘Milly’ and begins to realise that he’s actually not a real person but a character in a computer game that she’s trying to stop from being shut down by its nefarious publisher Antoine (Waititi),

Directed by Shawn Levy and co-starring Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer, was originally due out last July and is currently set for a 13th August arrival in cinemas…
