Bosch’s ‘final’ season to burn up screens for Amazon in June…

Though a new series is planned on IMBDtv, Amazon's final run of its hit show featuring Michael Connelly's 'Harry Bosch' begins next month...

We now have a firm date and some of the first footage for what will be the last series of Bosch on its current Amazon Prime Video platform. The series, based on the character created by Michael Connelly and featuring in over two decades worth of novels, is/was the first of the Amazon originals and arguably its most successful venture, now closing out after seven seasons. The screen stories have been based on various existing plots and situations from the novels, tweaked to update and sometimes intertwined. This seventh run will take a majority of its story-arc from The Burning Room, originally published in 2014 and a story that was inspired by a real-life case of arson. The promotional synopsis reads: When a 10-year-old girl dies in an arson fire, Detective Harry Bosch risks everything to bring her killer to justice despite opposition from powerful forces. The highly charged, politically sensitive case forces Bosch to face a grueling dilemma of how far he is willing to go to achieve justice.

However, as fans of the books and the series know, though this is being marketed as the Bosch ‘finale‘, it’s not the end of the television version of the character or mainstays Titus Welliver, Madison Lintz (who plays his daughter Maddie) and Mimi Rogers (who has appeared as devious lawyer Honey ‘Money’ Chandler). They are all set to reprise their roles in a continuation of the ‘Connellyverse’ in a new (as-yet untitled) series on IMDb TV (Amazon’s premium free streaming service). Given that in later books, Harry leaves Hollywood’s Robbery Homicide Division and his specific detective role in the force, this latest season of Bosch could be setting up that new status quo or readying to tell stories that deviate in other ways from the novel’s source-material timeline.

Fans of Bosch had campaigned for a reprieve or continuation of the show and so were delighted when the announcement came. In a double-tap of excellent news, Netflix also confirmed earlier this year that they have commissioned a ten-episode run of stories around Connelly’s other famous creation Mickey Haller aka The Lincoln Lawyer. The series will feature Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the title role and Neve Campbell as his ex-wife Maggie and is currently in production.

Bosch‘s ‘final’ season will be available on Amazon Prime Video from 25th June…
