Great Actors, Good Liars: Mirren, McKellen read between the lies…

Two industry greats finally get to work together in Warner Bros.' new story of a compromised con-man...

It might seem entirely unlikely, but is nevertheless true, that acting greats Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Helen Mirren have never worked together on screen. But that is being rectified next month with the release of a wry but dark tale of deceit and desperation as con-man and target test each other’s boundaries in Warner Bros.’ The Good Liar.

The story is based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Searle: Career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen) can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. She could be the ideal mark, but as Betty opens her life and home to him, Roy is surprised to find himself actually caring about her. What should have been a cut-and-dry swindle becomes the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life…

The film also features Jim Carter and Russell Tovey and is directed by Bill Condon who also helmed Beauty & the Beast, Kinsey, Twilight: Breaking Dawn and McKellen’s Mr. Holmes.

The Good Liar is on release in the UK and US in November.
